Croque Monsieur

Creamy toasted bread with ham and béchamel sauce.


Croque Monsieur originates from France and is also known as the "gentlemen crunch". Croque Monsieur is one of the popular breakfast in many cafes which you can easily do it at home. 
Brioche or thick bread slices are preferred for making Croque Monsieur.Normal white bread is fine if you can't get it.

 The ideal Croque Monsieur should be creamy and soft on the inside, crispy and cheesy on the outer side. Top it with a sunny side up and you have a Croque Madame.



Recipe ( Prep 5 mins, Cooking time 12 mins)
(Serves 1-2 )


Ingredients:


  • 4 pieces of bread(preferably brioche or thick slices of bread)
  • Gruyère cheese
  • Béchamel Sauce
  • 2 pieces ham


Steps:

1)Toast one side of the breads in an oven.Leave the other side un-toasted. 

2) Spread béchamel sauce on un-toasted side of the first piece of bread and add the ham on top.Spread more béchamel sauce on top of ham.

3) Top it with 2nd piece of bread, toasted side facing up.

4) Spread béchamel sauce on the toasted of the bread and sprinkle gruyère cheese generously on top of the bread. 

5) Preheat oven to 200 degrees and toast until gruyère cheese melts.Serves hot.
